One more tournament before the series.
I've been playing with the cast, because it hasn't incapacitated me too greatly. I do drop some passes, mostly those which are especially high or low, or to my left side at any height. I can clap catch with moderate effectiveness, but I have trouble switching grips. I feel like I can't cut at full speed, and I hold back aggressively attacking the disc when an opponent is aggressive himself. But I've also gotten some D's with the cast, too. I feel like I'm above zero for fantasy, at least.
As for the team, we've been improving, but we haven't yet played to our potential for even a full game. At least, that's what I'm hoping. I know that we have sound strategies, good players, decent athletes. We don't have a great depth of height, though, and most of our players are new to the team. I can justify our losses, but I'm getting tired of that. I'd like to see some results, especially as we head into the series.
Things are definitely different from how they were when I was a freshman in high school, though. Granted, I had a lot more to learn back then in terms of the basics, but I still see new players here who lack in foundational skills. I realize that it's dififcult to pay special attention to everybody, and that practices are times to work on team-specific skills and the team's system. Nonetheless, I remember there being a strcture in high school that was well-suited to teaching the freshmen and novices. It seems like we don't have enough upperclassmen now who care to take kids under their wing, and I don't see the underclassmen clamoring for help. We ARE a young team, but we still have experienced leaders who could, IMHO, push us to work harder, perhaps outside of practice, on fundamentals. How? I have no idea. I'm not saying I have the answer, but it is something I have noticed that we could do as team, improve our individual skills--throwing, catching, understanding the little things.
