Practice
at the Municipal fields with the Watchung kids. I think there were 7 of us at first, eventually 11 or so and we spent a good deal of time in the beginning tossing or trying to sky for jump balls. Then some thrower/marker, some ho-stack handler motion, some 5v5, and some one-on-one cutting defense. Overall a low-key practice due to lack of numbers, but got some decent work in for myself. Very tight from yesterday's workout, gotta stretch out for this weekend.

MCUDL Cancelled
Before the game, Frenchy and I headed to the College Ave Gym to do a quick 25min workout before driving down:
For time: (10 muscle-ups*,
25 pistol squats per leg,
25 hanging ab rollups) = 4:40
For time: (10 muscle-ups*,
25 pistol squats per leg,
25 hanging ab rollups) = 4:40
*muscle-ups were with 20lbs assistance
8 overhead squats, 45lb
Deadlift: 8 at 135, 6 at 185, 4 at 205lb
Drove down with Heiko through some bad rain to get to Mercer, banking on the bubble to be able to play, but when we show up it's still raining hard, lightning strikes a couple times, and Vlad tells us that his iPhone show a storm "the size of Philly" heading towards us...so we get the hell out of Dodge. But since the game was cancelled, we met DJ and Thorpe in the College Ave Gym annex for 10 minutes of throwing and 30 minutes of 2v2 mini.

Draft Game 11
vs Black. Surprisingly easy, we won 15-3 or 4 and then won a scrimmage 7-1. I thought this team would be more of a challenge. After the game Dave, Frenchy and I did some tabatas:
V-ups: 24, 21, 17, 11
Crunches: 18, 20, 22, 24
Scissor kicks (4 rounds)
Flutter kicks (4 rounds)
Pushups: 25, 21, 12, 7
4 rounds for each exercise, all done right in a row, no rest other than the 10 seconds between each set. I didn't keep track of reps for the kicks, because they were all in the upper 40s and 50s. Sort of a rest day, no leg stuff because we only had two subs and I played every point of the game, plus my head hurts like crazy from the sore throat and the wisdom tooth coming in. Blah blah blah. Can't wait for Wildwood.

Suicide DoC
Spades: sprint 20x(card value) yards
Hearts: burpees
Clubs: throwing lunges (each side)
Diamonds: pushups
Completed in 24:17
I did it barefoot in the rain on the sandy beach of the lake behind my house. I set up cones every 10yds out to 50yds from the starting point, so for the higher card values I had to go back and forth, like a suicide. I was dogging it pretty much the whole way. Low energy today, maybe because of the sore throat. After 15 minutes of rest, I went back out and did:
Backpedal 10yds, sprint 10yds, L shuffle 10yds, turn to sprint 40yds
Backpedal 10yds, sprint 10yds, R shuffle 10yds, turn to sprint 40yds
Backpedal 10yds, sprint 10yds, L shuffle 10yds, reverse turn to sprint 40yds
Backpedal 10yds, sprint 10yds, R shuffle 10yds, reverse turn to sprint 40yds
300yd suicide (10, 0, 20, 0, 30, 0, 40, 0, 50, 0)
L-hang pullup, knee-tuck pullup, pullup, hanging rollup
Extra-thick bar:
L-hang pullup, knee-tuck pullup, pullup, hanging rollup
5 L-hang pullups, top 75% RoM, 5 knee-tuck pullups, top 50% RoM
Regular-thickness bars, parallel grip:
5x(L-hang chinup, 2 alternating hanging rollups)
10 upside-down hanging leg pumps
15 hanging leg raises

A-League Game 8
vs Roots. Lost 12-15.
Never in control of the game. Maybe not enough subs. Definitely didn't match their intensity. They got really excited when a huck from Rainwater floated and I got skied by Brian Li. But I got the next huck goal over him and Bo Li, who somehow boxed each other out into not jumping. A very forgettable game overall.

Ugh
Frenchy posted the following on facebook:
"on year ago i would have said that i could just do it tomorrow but i just went out and did 15min interval run and 2 min tabata lunges and squats becuase I GOT SOMETHING TO PROVE!"
So I sucked it up and ran 5mi in 39:40 (7:56 pace)
Draft Game 10
vs Brown. We won 15-7 or so.
I wanted to do a stair workout beforehand, but traffic prevented that from happening. So during the game, I did:
3x10 (squats, walking lunges, burpees)
3x10 (leg lifts, situps, pushups)
1x20 (squats, walking lunges, burpees)
1x20 (leg lifts, situps, pushups)

Lift, Draft Game 9
6 DB press lunge 15lb
8 overhead squat 45lb
6 DB press backwards to step through lunge 15lb
8 overhead squat 65lb
1 snatch, 2 overhead squats 95lb
8 alternating hanging rollups
8 incline situp + DB press 20lb
5 bench press 135lb
The game was tight. We went down a few breaks in the beginning, 3-6, then tied it at 7-7 before Red took half. Mostly unforced errors and soft defense on our part. Same deal in the second half, we stayed within a few the whole time but they took it 13-15. Our first loss, which is disappointing but probably good for us. We gave the disc up too much, and couldn't really stop their deep game--it wasn't particularly devastating, but we didn't make the adjustments we should have. I caught a callahan on the first point, that felt pretty good. Darwin d'ed one of my hucks from 15yds out though, and that didn't. Fairly incident-free game, a few calls and some raised fur between Stoddard and Kieffer, but nothing dirty or hostile really. One of the most fun games of the season, easily--sometimes I'd rather lose a tight game than crush a much weaker team.

Cross-training?
Okay, not really. Went to the football field with Ronnie today to help him practice punting and kicking field goals. He helped me figure out a little better how to throw a football (I'm still pretty terrible) and I helped him learn to throw a disc. It was fun. Biked 3mi to get there, if that's worth mentioning.
Later, did 9 holes of disc golf with Caitlin and Matt. I was +1, pretty good for the number of times I had to tramp through brush and thorns to find the frisbee. It took fifteen minutes to find where my first tee-off throw landed (it was in a tree). I like the few holes in the middle that are down in the woods, but all the other holes require you to drive down a path bordered on both sides by a verdant nightmare of foliage. Being up to your knees in prickles gets old pretty fast when you're in shorts.

A-League Game 7
vs Big Stick. We won. Cool.
I don't think I played particularly well. Been feeling out of touch and uncoordinated lately. Don't know what that's all about. Maybe working out will help.
